Environmentally Friendly Green Wedding Invitations |
By Janine Sinclair
The new "green" movement, or eco friendly, is now entering the world of weddings. While this has traditionally been an area where no expense is spared, a trend is certainly developing towards the use of more environmentally friendly products used within a wedding. This will extend not only to the wedding ceremony itself, but also to the wedding invitations.
For wedding invitations, this is most often seen by the use of recycled paper and envelopes. There are many suppliers that offer a terrific selection of designs and styles to compliment any wedding, but in an eco-friendly way. Not only are you doing your little part to help our planet, most of these types of businesses are very small. This can help boost the small business owner, as well.
Wedding invitations that use recycled paper are available through most bridal shops today. You will also find several stationary companies that offer terrific boxed sets of wedding invitations made from recycled paper. If you are still having difficulty finding the style or design that suits your needs, consider
shopping online. There are several green stationary shops available that specifically cater to the eco-friendly consumer.
There are several invitations that will use minimal paper. Consider a single card invitation, without the traditional tissue paper insert. Forego the separate reception cards. Instead of an RSVP card, ask your guests to respond online or over the phone. This will cut down on the paper used for your invitations. Also use on envelope instead of two.
There are some terrific designs available in recycled note cards. A typical note card can reduce the amount of paper a typical wedding invitation use by up to fifty percent. While it may not seem like a lot, every little bit will help the environment.
When you are considering the printing, try to find a print company that uses soy or vegetable based inks. There are some of these shops listed online; however, you may have to do some research in order to find just what you are looking for. Most of the other inks used today are petroleum based, which can release harmful toxins into the air during manufacturing. Soy inks are much better for the environment. Remember, each little step will help.
When you mail your invitations, consider buying stamps that benefit one of the green organizations sponsored by the government. A portion of price will go towards some of these organizations and you can usually buy them once during each year.
You'll also find that some people are foregoing the wedding invitations all together. These couples are calling, emailing, or inviting people to their wedding face to face. While this is not for everyone, it is an option for those that are environmentally conscious.
There are many things you can do to help make your wedding a little bit greener. While the invitations are just one small area to experiment with green wedding ideas, there are many others. Take the time to do the research and you will be doing your part to make the planet stay a little greener.
