 Making homemade wedding invitations can definitely make for a unique invitation set. Homemade invitations allow you to express your creative side and allow you to use a variety of styles and techniques you will not find at your local print shop. However, if you are not exactly the craft type or you hate gluing, stamping, and being creative, this might not be the best project. It can also take a great deal of commitment to make a large number of invitations, so you must be prepared.  If you are considering a very informal wedding, there are some simple, but elegant invitations available. If you are on a tight budget for your wedding, you can still hold a fabulous event, even if it is informal.
For informal wedding invitations, you might consider printing them yourself. Many of the laser printers found in home offices nowadays are comparable to what a custom print shop can provide. There are terrific box sets of blank wedding invitations available at many fine stationary and printing shops. You'll find the card stock, envelopes and reception cards are already included. This is a terrific way to save some money, but yet send out a beautiful wedding invitation.
One nice aspect to printing your own invitations is that how much you can personalize the wedding invitation.  Wedding invitations are a way to creatively, stylishly, and beautifully announce your upcoming nuptials to your family and friends. For the last century, it's been rather easy to distinguish between a normal letter and a wedding invitation. The envelope for the invitation was of a heavier gauge, foil was normally present on the inside of the envelope, followed by a fabulously poetic invitation. However, wedding invitations were not always handled in this way. Here is a bit of history surrounding the wedding invitation.
As far back as the 12th century, weddings were announced by the town crier. The crier would earn his pay by "crying" out the news from the street corner. Anyone who happened by the particular corner, or within earshot, was automatically invited to the wedding. This could pose a problem if the streets were very busy, as there was no idea how many people would be attending.
During the Middle Ages, most people were unable to read or write. Many nobility hired monks to complete the transcription of the wedding invitations. |
